Welcome to the ultimate guide on how to get to Bukit Lawang. First, you'll need to get a flight to Medan (Kuala Namu Airport), which can be easily accessed through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or anywhere else in Indonesia! Once you've arrived in North Sumatra, you're halfway there. While the road from Medan to Bukit Lawang isn't the smoothest, there are certainly options that make it more comfortable.
Private Car

Choosing from a 5 seater or a 7 seater car, we can accommodate all sizes of groups. The private car will pick you up from the airport, and drop you directly to Bukit Lawang. Depending on traffic, our drivers can get to Bukit Lawang within 3-4 hours. The driver can also make stops along the way if needed, ie. ATM, or for food!

Local Bus
The option on a budget
While the name indicates a single local bus, this journey has multiple stops along the way (3 modes of transport).
Kuala Namu to Binjai:
ALS bus to Binjai - buses are waiting on the right outside the arrivals. The journey will take about 2 hours, and they leave every 30 minutes.
Cost: IDR 50,000
Binjai to Bukit Lawang:
It’s best to try to get off the bus at Medan Supermall, however some busses drop you at the main station (see below).
Find an orange minibus marked with Bukit Lawang on the front window. You can flag them down as they pass by.
Cost: IDR 15,000-30,000 per person, although sometimes they will try to charge more! Pay on arrival and not before.
Main Station
You will need to take a becak (local rickshaw) to Tanah Lapang, which is about 2km away. Here you can find a minibus to Bukit Lawang
Becak Cost: no more than IDR 20,000
Tanah Lapang
